Barcelona aims to strengthen its defense during the summer window, with uncertainty around the right-back position. Nineteen-year-old Xavi Espart, who broke into Barcelona’s first team in the 2025/26 season and impressed in several appearances, may seek regular first-team football elsewhere.

According to reports from Spanish media, newly promoted La Liga side Real Racing Club de Santander is preparing to submit a loan offer for Espart. The Cantabrian club expects Barcelona to make the young defender available during the summer transfer window to gain consistent playing time.

Racing previously attempted to sign Espart during the winter window. Barcelona showed willingness to let him go then, but coach Hansi Flick decided to keep him as backup. The likelihood of a loan move this summer has increased, although no official bids have yet been received.

This loan would offer Espart valuable La Liga experience while allowing Barcelona to develop a promising talent who could return stronger for the next season.
