In the coming days, Monaco is set to activate the purchase option for Ansu Fati, following the terms of his one-year loan. The transfer fee amounts to €11 million, with the deal expected to close before the end of June 2026, when the option expires.
Although Fati will leave Barcelona, the club intends to maintain control over the forward. Barcelona has retained a right of first refusal, allowing them to match any future offers Monaco receives for the player.
Additionally, Barcelona will keep 30% of any future transfer fee if they choose not to exercise their buy-back. Contrary to earlier speculation, there is no fixed buy-back clause for €28 million; only the right of first refusal and the percentage of future sale proceeds remain.
Fati was loaned to Monaco after coach Hansi Flick did not include him in the plans for the 2024/25 season. While in Ligue 1, he appeared in 25 matches and scored 11 goals, steadily regaining form and averaging a goal every 110 minutes.
This arrangement reflects Barcelona’s strategy to keep promising talent within reach and retain leverage over his career. Despite leaving the club’s main squad, Fati’s development continues, with Barcelona preserving a stake and the option to bring him back under favorable terms.
