Sporting Lisbon has decided to sell Francisco Trincão during this transfer window, despite his contract renewal until 2030. The club has given the green light to start negotiations with interested teams.
According to reports from Spanish media, Sporting expects to secure a transfer fee around €50 million, marking a historic profit for the Portuguese side. The main contenders include clubs from the English Premier League, with several Saudi Arabian teams also ready to match the financial terms if needed.
For Barcelona, the situation with Trincão has not gone favorably. Last summer, the Catalan club sold 50% of the player's rights for just €11 million as part of a salary cap expansion strategy. The total transfer cost to Sporting, including initial loan and full purchase, is €18 million. Barcelona also lost the buy-back option last summer, foregoing any future economic upside.
The 26-year-old winger arrived at Barcelona from Portugal several seasons ago but struggled to establish himself amid the club’s financial and sporting difficulties. In Portugal, Trincão gained stability and became a key player for Sporting, which consequently boosted his market value.
Having previously played in England for Wolverhampton, Trincão appears to favor a return to the Premier League, seeking to compete at the highest level. Thus, offers from England are considered most attractive to him.
Sporting is about to finalize a transfer that was originally an investment to maximize returns, while Barcelona missed the opportunity to benefit from the player's growth by selling part of his rights cheaply and renouncing the buy-back option.
