Ferran Torres, forward for FC Barcelona, is known not only for his performance on the pitch but also for his active role in social and ecological causes. One of his passions has been marine life, an area in which he has made significant contributions.
The Oceanografic Aquarium in Valencia named a grey reef shark after Torres as a tribute. This species, approximately two meters long, is listed as endangered. The aquarium explained the tribute "as recognition of the Valencian footballer’s connection with marine conservation and, especially, his efforts to raise social awareness about the importance of protecting these animals."
Torres served as an ambassador for the Oceanografic Foundation during 2024 and 2025, gaining extensive knowledge about sharks. During this period, he organized an educational visit to the aquarium for about 100 participants from his summer camp, emphasizing marine education.
Known by his nickname “The Shark,” highlighted frequently on his social media, this naming honor is a meaningful acknowledgment amid an uncertain future at Barcelona. It adds a distinctive chapter to his off-field legacy.
