Marc-André Ter Stegen is rejoining FC Barcelona’s training sessions in July 2026 following an unsuccessful loan spell at Girona, where he suffered a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the entire season and the World Cup.

Ter Stegen is contracted with Barcelona until 2028 but is currently not part of head coach Hansi Flick’s plans. In January, he moved to Girona, where he started as first-choice goalkeeper, but his injury limited his impact.

He also lost his position as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper to Manuel Neuer, confirmed by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Girona was interested in extending his loan, but their relegation to the Segunda División prevented them from taking on his salary.

Ter Stegen remains a Barcelona player but with an uncertain future as the club has reinforced the goalkeeping department, including newcomers like Joan García.

Looking ahead, possibilities include a transfer or another loan to secure playing time and regain his status at international level.
