Jules Koundé had a one-word response when asked about the controversial ending to Barcelona’s clash with Girona on Monday night. He was fouled in the build-up to Girona’s late winner, but the referee did not award a free-kick and the goal stood.

As he left the stadium, Koundé told waiting reporters just one word: 'Claro'. Television replays clearly show Claudio Echeverri landing on Koundé’s foot and leaving the Frenchman on the turf before Fran Beltrán scored.

Girona boss Michel said he thought it was a counter-attack and that it could be called; if the referee didn’t call it, VAR is right not to intervene. He added that these kinds of tackles stray from the essence of football and that VAR intervening would be a mistake if the referee did not see a foul.
