Pau Cubarsí spoke to 3Ca in an interview published on 10 February 2026 (report by Dídac Peyre), covering several topics about FC Barcelona’s current situation both on the pitch and within the dressing room ahead of the Copa del Rey semi-final with Atlético Madrid.
The centre-back referred to the episode involving Ronald Araujo and described its effect on the group, stressing the importance of mental health. Cubarsí explained that the players were hurt seeing a teammate and friend go through that, and he welcomed that Araujo sought help and is now able to enjoy what he likes again.
Regarding the team's performances, Cubarsí attributed the improvement to small adjustments made by the coaching staff in recent weeks. He said they had revisited four specific elements that helped the team progress from a lower level to better form. He confirmed trust in the staff’s philosophy and the recovery of certain details that had not worked earlier or were neglected over the summer.
He also praised the squad’s overall level and the coach’s faith in every player. In that context, Cubarsí pointed out Gerard Marín’s change of position to centre-back, calling him a useful addition and noting that everyone has the coach’s confidence, which matters for the team.
On the upcoming Copa del Rey tie at Atlético Madrid, Cubarsí acknowledged the difficulty of the venue and stressed the objective: maintain the good momentum, play a solid game and try to secure a positive result away so that they can return to Camp Nou with much of the job done. He said that winning the cup again would be spectacular.
The academy product also spoke about Joan Laporta, noting that Laporta expressed satisfaction about the five years that have passed and that Cubarsí experienced part of that period personally. He described Laporta as an exceptional president who helped him a lot off the pitch and said that Laporta would be welcome if he returns.
Finally, Cubarsí recalled his first goal for the first team, scored last season against Atlético. Although the match ended 4-4 and was not the desired result, the first goal remains a cherished memory that reflected all the effort behind reaching that moment; he mentioned the emotional gesture of kissing and holding the club badge as something that came from the heart.
