In a radio interview, journalist Roberto Gómez highlighted Barcelona's financial constraints in the potential signing of Julian Álvarez. He stated, "Barcelona does not have the money to sign the player," emphasizing that Atlético Madrid's buyout clause is around €500 million.

Gómez pointed out that Atlético is firm on not engaging in direct negotiations with Joan Laporta, Barcelona's president. "Atlético Madrid will not negotiate with Joan Laporta; they will not even answer his calls," he said. According to Gómez, Barcelona negotiated with the player’s agents behind Atlético’s back, which he described as "very unacceptable and inadmissible" conduct in football.

He also said Barcelona had six opportunities during the year to discuss Álvarez's transfer directly with Atlético but never raised the matter officially and instead negotiated through agents. "Barcelona's behavior was like blackmailing Atlético Madrid," Gómez added.

The interview also included criticism of Laporta's public statements and his relationship with La Liga president Javier Tebas, as well as remarks about Real Madrid's president Florentino Pérez. Gómez called the Barcelona president’s actions "disappointing" and "disrespectful to colleagues."

Given the financial environment, including salary caps and regulatory rules, Barcelona lacks the necessary funds to acquire Julian Álvarez at the buyout price, casting doubt on the transfer’s feasibility for the 2027/28 season.
