Fermín López, a player for FC Barcelona (shirt number 16), is having a spectacular season. He began by coming on as a substitute in the second halves but has gradually consolidated his place in the starting eleven, becoming a key piece for Hansi Flick. One of his main virtues is that he always gives everything on the pitch, which Barça fans appreciate.
Off the field, the Andalusian footballer generates interest for his private life. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo he revealed his favourite dish: "They are lentils," he said, adding that they are "my grandmother's lentils, but she doesn't make them with chorizo, she makes them with vegetables and rice." Lentils are one of Spain's most popular dishes because they are a complete, economical and nutritious preparation. He also said that when he wants to stray from his diet, he always eats sushi.
Recipe: The preparation begins with a basic sofrito. In a large pot heat the oil and add the onion and garlic, cooking until translucent. Then add the tomato for flavor. Next add the carrot, potato and squash together with the previously drained lentils. Once combined, add broth or water plus bay leaf and cumin, and simmer over medium heat for 25–30 minutes so the lentils soften and the flavors meld.
Finally add the washed rice, which gives body and transforms the soup into a complete dish after an additional 15–20 minutes of cooking. It's an easy recipe to make at home.
