FC Barcelona has identified Andreas Schjelderup as a potential target for their attacking line-up ahead of the summer transfer window. Alongside considering Marcus Rashford, the La Liga club is monitoring the young Norwegian’s progress closely.
The 21-year-old winger has delivered a solid performance this season with Benfica, tallying seven goals and four assists across 36 appearances in all competitions, including key goals against Real Madrid and Porto. Additionally, he scored his first goal for Norway in a friendly against the Netherlands during the international break.
Benfica is currently weighing up an offer to extend Schjelderup’s contract until 2031. His current deal runs until 2028, and the Portuguese club wants to secure his future after nearly losing him to Club Brugge in January.
Schjelderup himself expressed excitement at the reported interest from Barcelona, calling it ‘‘fantastic’’ if true. However, there are no formal offers at present, and Benfica appears intent on retaining their talented winger.
This potential contract renewal could complicate Barcelona’s summer plans, increasing competition and raising the stakes in acquiring promising talents.
