A childhood tragedy deeply marked Cancelo's life and character. He lost his mother in a devastating accident when he was just eight years old. I remember my younger brother crying, also just eight years old.” He even tried to save her, attempting to lift the car trapping her, but it was impossible: “I tried lifting the car with all my strength, but it was impossible.” These events left lasting emotional scars, demanding tremendous resilience.
In addition to this tragedy, Cancelo survived a violent robbery in Manchester in 2021 during his time at Manchester City. Armed intruders broke into his home, and he showed composure and courage. “One of the robbers turned his back on me, and I took the chance to punch him in the back of the head. He fell forward, dropping the knife. Then I got hit in the head with an iron bar,” the defender recounted. The scar on his head, with eight stitches, remains a sign of his fight to protect himself.
Currently, Cancelo is training with the Portugal national team in the United States and has agreed on a two-year contract with Barcelona. The only pending matter is the financial agreement with Al Hilal for his transfer.
