Barcelona is preparing a contract extension offer for Robert Lewandowski, who is currently evaluating his next career move. Despite being 37 years old, the Polish striker remains a central figure in the club’s plans under coach Xavi and especially under Hans-Dieter Flick.
According to Goal, the proposed deal includes a significant pay cut, with Lewandowski’s base salary expected to be halved compared to his current wage. However, performance-related bonuses tied to appearances and goals could boost his overall earnings if he maintains his high standards on the pitch.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly supported keeping the legendary forward, while relations between Lewandowski’s camp — headed by agent Pini Zahavi — and the club have reached a peak trust level after Laporta’s recent electoral victory. The striker values the comfort his family has found in Barcelona, making him more receptive to reduced financial terms.
At the same time, several other suitors are monitoring Lewandowski’s situation closely. MLS side Chicago Fire, coached by Gregg Berhalter, remains highly interested, and the Saudi Pro League offers attractive financial packages. Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan have also shown interest.
Lewandowski himself has stated he is in no rush to decide, admitting uncertainty about his future direction.
The decision to retain Lewandowski affects the squad balance. Barcelona is reportedly ready to entertain offers for Ferran Torres this summer to free up space and help finances. Maintaining three top strikers is seen as unsustainable, so Torres’ sale will provide crucial funds potentially to pursue targets like Julian Alvarez.
Under Hans-Dieter Flick, Lewandowski is not only an on-field leader but also a mentor to young talents like Lamine Yamal and Gavi. Keeping him ties together experience and youth, enabling Barcelona to compete for trophies now while preparing the next generation.
