Club Career

Pau Cubarsí Paredes is a central defender regarded as one of the brightest products of the new generation in FC Barcelona’s academy system. According to the club’s official data, he arrived at La Masia on 1 July 2018, joining from Girona as a U12 player. From that moment, his development took place inside Barça’s academy, where he quickly stood out as a defender with leadership, defensive authority, and the ability to bring the ball out from the back. The 2023/24 season became the turning point in his career. Barcelona state that during that period he played for Barça Atlètic while also receiving call-ups to the first team. His official competitive debut for the senior side came in January 2024 against Unionistas de Salamanca in the Copa del Rey. A month earlier, in December 2023, he had already featured for the first team in a friendly in Dallas against Club América. Only a few days after that cup debut, he also made his La Liga debut. Barcelona specifically noted that the match against Betis in January 2024 was his first appearance in the league. As the season went on, the young defender became more and more established in the side and finished the campaign with 24 official first-team appearances. In the 2024/25 season, under Hansi Flick, Cubarsí fully established himself as an important first-team player. According to Barcelona, he made 56 appearances, won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, scored his first goal for the first team in the cup tie against Atlético Madrid, and signed a contract extension running until 30 June 2029. By the start of 2026, Cubarsí was already seen as one of the symbols of the new Barcelona generation. The club highlighted that, just over a year after his debut, he had already reached 60 first-team matches, and later went on to reach the 100-game mark as well. His club story is the story of a La Masia player who moved extremely quickly from academy prospect to one of the key defenders in the senior squad.
