Club Career
Gavi is one of the brightest products of the new generation in FC Barcelona’s academy system. His full name is Pablo Páez Gavira, and he joined Barça in 2015 at the age of 11. The club’s official website states that only six years later he had already made his senior debut. His first La Liga appearance came on 29 August 2021 against Getafe, and at that time he became the fourth-youngest Barça debutant in the league. From the very beginning, Gavi established himself in the first team with remarkable speed. In September 2022, Barcelona renewed his contract until 2026 and made him an official first-team player. The club also highlighted how quickly his progress had turned him into an important part of the senior side. In October 2022, Gavi received the Kopa Trophy, awarded by France Football to the best player in the world under the age of 21. His first full seasons with the senior team were highly successful. In 2022/23, Gavi helped Barcelona win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. His role in that side was especially visible in major matches, and the Spanish Football Federation specifically highlighted his performance in the Super Cup final against Real Madrid, where he scored once and provided two assists. The next important stage of his club career was defined not only by success, but also by a major setback. In January 2025, Barcelona announced a new contract for Gavi running until 30 June 2030, once again confirming his importance to the club’s future. Later, during the 2025/26 season, he faced serious problems with his right knee: in September 2025 the club announced a medical procedure, and in spring 2026 it confirmed his return after more than six months out. On 14 March 2026, Gavi was again available for the match against Sevilla, and on 15 March he returned to the pitch with the first team. Gavi’s club story is therefore the story of a La Masia footballer who broke into the first team at a very early age, became a symbol of Barcelona’s energy and character, won major trophies, and, despite a serious injury, returned as one of the club’s most valuable players.
