At Espanyol, he was quickly regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the academy. In November 2023, the club officially extended his contract until June 30, 2028, underlining the trust placed in him by the club. It was at Espanyol that Joan García took the decisive step in his professional career. He gradually moved closer to the first team, received a senior squad number, and later became an important part of the side.
