Club Career

Joan García is a Spanish goalkeeper who has risen from Catalan football to one of Europe’s biggest clubs. He was born in Sallent, Catalonia, and joined Espanyol’s youth system in 2016 from Damm. At Espanyol, he was quickly regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the academy. In November 2023, the club officially extended his contract until June 30, 2028, underlining the trust placed in him by the club. It was at Espanyol that Joan García took the decisive step in his professional career. He gradually moved closer to the first team, received a senior squad number, and later became an important part of the side. The 2024/25 season was especially important for him: official La Liga materials described him as one of the breakout stars of the league and highlighted his key role in helping the club stay up. La Liga also noted that he led the league in saves that season. In the summer of 2025, Joan García joined FC Barcelona. The club officially announced that it had activated his release clause, valued at 25 million euros plus CPI, and then signed him to a six-year contract. On the player’s official Barça page, the club states that he arrived after an outstanding La Liga campaign in which he had established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the competition. During the 2025/26 season, Joan García quickly became an important figure in Barcelona’s squad. According to the club’s official website, by the end of March 2026 he had played 36 matches in all competitions, including 23 in La Liga. Barça also reported that at that point he had the best save percentage in the league at 78.75%, while his 12 clean sheets had him level with Jan Oblak for the league lead.
